교수 소개

성균관대학교 어문학부 영어영문학과에서 수학한 후 이화여자대학교 영어영문학과로 편입하여 학사학위를 받았으며, 미국 버팔로 뉴욕주립대학교(State University of New York at Buffalo)에서 영문학을 전공하고(세부전공: 19·20세기 미국소설) 석사 및 박사학위를 취득하였다.

박사과정 동안 영미문학 텍스트를 중심으로 문학사, 문학이론, 문화연구 등을 연구하며 문학과 사회·문화·철학적 맥락의 관계에 관심을 가져왔다. 현재는 Cormac McCarthy와 William Faulkner를 비롯한 현대 미국문학과 문화 텍스트를 해석학적 철학과 연계하여 윤리적 주체성, 타자와의 관계, 연대와 공동체의 가능성을 탐구하는 연구를 수행하고 있다. 특히 포스트아포칼립스 문화 텍스트를 중심으로 위기와 붕괴의 서사 속에서 윤리와 공동체의 문제가 어떻게 사유되고 재구성되는지를 연구하고 있다.

Introduction to William 

William Corcoran received his B.S. from Drexel University in 2007, majoring in Film and Video Production and minoring in Screenwriting and Playwriting. His studies focused on the impacts of narrative storytelling to the human experience, with lots of research and analysis towards Joseph Campbell's monomyth and its influence through ancient to modern society. Immediately after graduating from university, he became an assistant camera operator for a major television production and lived and worked in Los Angeles. 

He later received his Master of Education in 2016 from Framingham State University, specializing in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). He worked in the English department at Hanshin University from 2016-2021, and worked as a teacher trainer and TESOL professor at Sookmyung Women's University TESOL and IIETTP certification programs before joining the faculty of Sungkyul University in 2021. 

Introduction to Beau

Beau received his B.A. from Carleton University in 2008 with a combined major in History, Classics, and Religious Studies. His undergraduate research focused on institutional structures and their influence across societies from the ancient world to the early modern period. His work examined British colonial assimilation practices in French Canada, the cultural role of metics in ancient Athens, and the function of Orientalist discourse in sustaining Western dominance through language and representation.

He later earned a Master of Education in 2022, specializing in adult and post-secondary education. His research explored the role of secondary education in shaping learners’ intellectual development and examined curricular approaches that foster agency, literacy, and reflective learning. His thesis addressed reflective practice and the modernization of high school education in response to post-COVID educational challenges.

His academic interests include ancient socio-cultural history—particularly the civilizations of Greece, Rome, China, and Korea—as well as linguistic anthropology, etymology, and comparative religious studies.
