Introduction
Among the six colleges of Sungkyul University, College of Theology, which is the center of the foundation philosophy of the university, was established in 1962 and has a history and tradition of over 40 years. Since the College of Theology was established to train denomination pastors of the Korean Church of Jesus Christ, we have focused on nurturing only God's ministers with the specificity of denomination seminary.
Unlike many other theological colleges in Korea, this seminary college is established by Korean people. Most denominations and seminaries in Korea, were established by foreign capital and foreign missionaries. However Pastor Eung-Jo Kim, who founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Korea and Sungkyul University, was the one who founded denominations and schools based on national capital(Donated by Hongdaesil Gwon) and also campaigned for independence.
The theological thoughts of the Korean Holiness Church of Jesus and the College of Theology are the fourfold Gospel (Justification by faith, Baptism with the Holy Spirit, Divine healing, Second Coming) and Pastor Eungjo Kim's Biblical Orthodox ideology.
College of Theology is concentrating on cultivating high quality pastors through 7-year theological education in connection with the Graduate School of Theology, as it is difficult to meet the changing times with only 4-year courses. Therefore, undergraduates are required to take courses for liberal arts and literacy about basic theology as a pastor, and graduates are taking specialized theology courses.
College of Theology aims for evangelical theology by emphasizing the holiness ideology centering on the fourfold gospel of the Bible's core doctrine (justification by faith, Baptism with the Holy Spirit, Divine healing, Second Coming). Also we are reinforcing evangelical theological education by rejecting humanism or liberal theology. Theological college will make more efforts to cultivate pastors and Christian leaders who are in harmony with the heart of God.
